A TRIBUTE TO J.P. MCCARTHY
If you were alive in Detroit (and across much of Michigan) between 1964 and 1995 and had aural capabilities then you most likely knew who J. P. McCarthy was. Either you, your parents or grandparents listened to him on WJR. You didn't have to like him to respect the popularity and longevity of his show which was regularly rated #1 during most of his tenure. A career which was cut short due to a rare form of leukemia known as myelodysplastic syndrome which struck him in the summer of 1995 and took his life in a mere matter of months.
