DETROIT YACHTSMAN MAGAZINE OCTOBER 1960

October 1960
by Detroit Yachtsman

Not posting for 6 months is no way to conduct a blog but seeing as I have dozens of them, in all capacities, it seems natural that some should lag behind. Which is unfortunate because this is one of my favorites. It is also one my newer endeavors and as such the old standards get the tender care and this one the old heave ho. I'll try to remedy this for the 12 readers per year that swing by.

Although I have very little interest in sailing or most aquatic activities involving boats (and even worse motion sickness!) this is a great little publication that I picked up for a buck at John King.

I haven't been able to find any information on the publication itself via the internet or by searching rare book databases or eBay.

The publisher, Jack Grenard, isn't so elusive and I've tracked down some cursory information on him. He was a supervisor for a local recycle group called Earth Lovers. He also was (and might still be) a filmmaker who shot a documentary from his bicycle called "Western Britain from Loch Lomond to Lands End" which was featured on George Pierrot's World Adventure Series.

In addition to his work on Detroit Yachstman he also wrote technical journals and some fiction. According to this article he moved to a Carefree, Arizona retirement community in 1986. Something tells me that an active guy like that is probably still kicking around too.

For archival purposes I'll try to add some names here in case descendants or the people themselves are searching for it. The man on the front cover is Ron Kinde.
